All-Fill have always been proud to support and develop young people wanting to start a career in engineering and have taken on many apprentices throughout the years.
Most recently, we have employed Alex Wales and Chris Shepherd who have just started their Advanced Level Apprenticeships in Engineering Manufacture and Electrical Engineering respectively. Alex is only a couple of months into his apprenticeship for which he attends Bedford College for one day a week and spends the remainder of the week in our Machine Shop manufacturing parts on the manual lathes and mills.
Chris is our first Electrical apprentice and has been with the company since November last year. Under the supervision of our Electrical Supervisor and day release at college, Chris is learning how to wire panels and machinery, some of which are quite complex.
The reason an apprenticeship position became available in our Machine Shop for Alex was due to Sam Cothill successfully completing his 3 ½ year Advanced Level Apprenticeship in Engineering Manufacture (Mechanical Manufacturing Engineering – Machining). Sam is now putting what he has learnt into practice as a fully-fledged Machine Shop Technician. He is also assisting with Alex’s development by teaching him the skills required to manufacture parts to the highest standard of quality expected by our customers. Sam has said that “with All-Fill’s help and support, I now have a recognised qualification and am looking forward to improving my skills further with the Company”.
Jack Ross has been employed as an Apprentice Mechanical Fitter with All-Fill since May 2013 and is now only 3 months away from completing his Advanced Level Apprenticeship in Engineering consisting of an NVQ Level 3 in Mechanical Manufacturing Engineering and a VRQ Diploma in Engineering Technology. During his time at All-Fill, Jack’s engineering knowledge and skills have come on leaps and bounds and he is building our Series 10 machines with ease.
Upon completion of Jack’s apprenticeship in June, All-Fill will be looking to take on another Mechanical Fitter apprentice who Jack can take under his wing and assist with training, helping All-Fill continue with their commitment to supporting young people with an interest in engineering.
